Painting 9

Current leading theory:  This one's very difficult. Theories include the Montreal/Quebec City region and St. Louis.

  1. Hello, I really think this is STL.

The nose/mouth area looks like a plane to me. The arching eyebrow. The Purina logo that was all over the Checkerdome and his hat is shaped like the Checkerdome with checkers. That hoof that hangs down and out of that square reminds me of the Missouri boot. The fingers are doing a very close representation of the the well-known old courthouse. The Blue note in the flower. That stair pattern looks a lot like both the Checkerdome and the Jewel Box in Forest Park. The Fleur-de-lis is on the STL flag. I see what could be a snake and lion in the hair and could have been a reference to the STL Zoo.

I think there is a lot more here.

    1. The hoof could also be a reference to the Clydesdales.

  2. The zoo thing is even more interesting as I continue to look at it. Those animal faces on top of each other resemble the sign/logo for the STL zoo. The letters are stacked vertically with the z on top. Its a well known sign and back in the 80's the STL zoo was a big deal, still is.

  3. On the right side of his hair that looks like a bird nest. There seems to be something in the center of it. Looks red-ish. Could be a reference to the STL baseball Cardinals. Their stadium at that time was round like that as well. Might be a reach but the negative just above the nest looks like it could be a cardinal beak..

Also, now that I look at that collar on his right side it looks similar to Missouri.

  4. Here is my quick take....it's in Memorial Park in Helena Montana ...... I won't give you all the details but, the flower is in my opinion a Bitter root the state flower of Montana ,If you take the south west corner of the state you will find it matches the left side of the hat, look at the face ...it is an Eagle, specially a golden eagle, Montana has the large population of Golden Eagle and the largest population is WEST of Great Falls, the hoof is an ELK the head above it a Prong Horn, both are found in Montana......There was an old Civil war fountain in Memorial park the outline is in the painting as well as the checkered detail at the top of the fountain.....there's more but, I have to go dig something up....maybe..

  5. OK I'm looking at Gateway Arch Nat.Park STL.from the air it looks like it could be the Nose and mouth area of painting #9
as you go strait up Market street you will find Kiener Plaza park. on the right hand side of the park look at the bush and tree line a very good match to the outline on the top right hand of the cap. The park accommodates the Olympic Runner statue by Lithuanain-born immigrant William Zorach. and I really like all the tile work over most of the park.

  6. There's a dogs head in the patch with the hoof sticking out

  7. The Archgrounds and Kiener plaza are all recent redos. I like how the dogs face when turned 90 degrees counter clockwise resembles the Busch beer logo possibly a nod to Busch Stadium which coincides with the hoof although a Clydesdales hoof is covered in white fur.

  8. music note in the flower, cardinal head, horse hoof on the left lapel. Arch and capital dome in his neck (upside down). This is St. Louis.

  9. Check out white area on both sides of neck. This looks like 2 rivers coming together. This matches the 2 rivers that form around Montreal Canada if viewed on a map. This matches the northern half of Montreal island, where st Lawrence and prairies rivers form around the island.

    1. I agree that this looks like two rivers meeting. It would not be a stretch to consider this a critical clue.

  10. Bowling Hall of Fame is in St. Louis and inside the square looks like pins being struck with a bowling ball.

  11. The Bowling Hall of Fame is in St Louis and it appears in the small box to be a bowling ball hitting some pins.

  13. After reading the front (story) part of the book, and paying strict attention to the immigrant clues, I believe this is about Dutch immigration. New Amsterdam (now Manhattan) was a Dutch city in what is now New York City. I think concentrating on this section of the country, though not necessarily only Manhattan, would be most likely to render a treasure box. Also, I think verse 2 and this pic (9) matchup. Lastly, pic 9 has a strong Dutch Masters (DM) painting resemblance - which would match the immigration theme. One DM self-portrait by Rembrandt matches in style this pic 9. Makes me wonder; is this possibly a Palencar self portrait? Can anyone ask him? :-)
