This verse corresponds to Image #12. I've located the elusive door and corresponding map overlay. I've just requested permission to dig at the site of my solution for this image. I pray that the park approves the dig.
I was researching NY and discovered Babe Ruth was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, which is probably why the Statue of Liberty is shown in divine light. This led me to the Gravesend area. I felt it was irresistible, given its name.
I researched Lady Moody who was the first female landowner in America. Her land included Coney Island. Lady Moody is an interesting figure whose husband was a knight. He died before she came to America. Sadly, she's not even a footnote in Coney Island's history.
As I connected the dots, I felt that Image #12 is unique in that it doesn't seem to represent a person, so much as a place. Coney Island was a melting pot of magic and wonder from far away lands.
I honed in on the early 1900's, William Reynolds, and Dreamland. William Reynolds is quite a character. Each part of his story with Dreamland is fraught with corruption ... the beginning, middle, and end. I believe the grey giant and the arm that marks the slender path are markers from Dreamland.
There was once a grey tower that dwarfed the surrounding skyline and an archangel that stood at the entrance of Dreamland pointing to Surf Ave. I wish I could travel back in time to get the full experience of what it was like to walk this street in the early 1900's. Surf Avenue wraps around and comes to present day Kaiser Park.
In looking at Kaiser Park on the map, I can see all the shapes from Image #12. This was a "holy shit" moment. One I couldn't believe that had been missed for all these years. I believe that this treasure box is hidden under home plate at Kaiser Park in Coney Island. I've written to the man but Josh Gates is silent. I've written to several park officials and haven't heard anything. So I may reach out to a NY treasure hunter for assistance. We'll see what happens.
Sadly, NYC Parks official response is a resounding no. No digging allowed! They feel it could cause damage to their property and/or create a hazardous condition.
Another possible solution for the grey giant is elephantine collasis. An interesting landmark on coney island that pre-dated the statue of liberty. This unique building sat at 12th and surf ave. The more I look at image 12 I can see the elephant trunk in the shadow of the left arm. I believe the sash hides the other clues: there is a cone, then an island, and finally home plate. I believe the entire picture is a map overlay for Kaiser Park. So I still believe the casque is under home plate at Kaiser Park ... but it's just another way to connect the dots. I'm working with a NY treasure hunter who says he can dig at home plate. Fingers crossed that this casque will see the light day in the near future.
The Statue of Liberty is green! How can it be the "grey" giant?
Verse 10
In the shadow Of the grey giant NYC or the New York Yankees
Find the arm that Extends over the slender path Bayonne Bridge over the Kill Van Kull
In summer You'll often hear a whirring sound Ground keeper mowing
Cars abound Although the sign Cars going to the baseball game
Nearby Speaks of Indies native Alexander Hamilton
The natives still speak Of him of Hard word in 3 Vols. Alexander Hamilton Ave
Take twice as many east steps as the hour Or more About 20 feet east of the left foul ball line
From the middle of one branch Of the v The middle point of the left foul ball line
Look down And see simple roots In rhapsodic man's soil In the stands look down watching the baseball Game
Or gaze north Toward the isle of B Looking north from Richmond County Bank Ballpark you can see the Bayonne Peninsula (“isle” an island or peninsula, especially a small one)
Richmond County Bank Ballpark Home of the Staten Island Yankees 75 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY
Casque location: 160 feet down the left foul line / about 20 feet due east
Or gaze north Toward the isle of B Looking north from in the Bank Ballpark you can see the Bayonne Peninsula (“isle” an island or peninsula, especially a small one)
Richmond County Bank Ballpark Home of the Staten Island Yankees 75 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY
Casque location: 160 feet down the left foul line / about 20 feet due east
I am way over seas but I havde a theory: Rhapsodic man's soil, that is John Lenon. Ilse of B is broadway, and so is the slender path. I think it is in central park, but good luck getting premission to dig there...
The NY casque puzzle is so vague that no one has an actual starting point. No one has an actual “fit” for the poem and/or illustration. In 40 years still no concrete matches. No one knows if “grey giant” means Manhattan, a building, a bus line, etc. So frustrating ..

You all are way off! I will reveal my findings if someone is willing to go dig for me.

ReplyDeleteThis verse belongs with Image 1. Start with the grey giant...Embarcadero Freeway. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I really think there has to be one in/outside of Central Park!
ReplyDeleteCentral Park was under construction at the exact right time in the 80s for one to sneak in and bury the treasure.

ReplyDeleteI think "grey giant" is a building. Just not the one you would first think of in NYC.
DeleteChrystler building, next to Grand Central. Grand Central is the starting point. Look at the windows.
